Everyone appreciates the ability to multitask, so shaving while you’re showering makes perfect sense. But you can’t put a regular mirror in the shower because it will fog up—and it’s not safe. Choosing a great fogless shower mirror is the way to go.
Adhesive or suction cup: While a fogless shower mirror that’s mounted with suction cups is the easiest to install, they often don’t work very well on bathroom tiles that are textured. If you want to be sure that your shower mirror won’t fall off the wall, opt for one that can be mounted with silicone glue or screwed into your tile.
Fog resistance: Some shower mirrors have a fog-resistant coating that keeps the mirror free from condensation, whereas others have a rear compartment that you fill with hot water—and some mirrors have both. Most users find the compartment to be more effective, but if you’re often in a rush or don’t think you’ll remember to fill it up with hot water before you start to shave, you may want a mirror with just the fog-resistant coating.
Extra Features: Take into account your particular needs when selecting a fogless shower mirror. Do you need more space to store your razors and shaving cream? You’ll want to opt for a mirror that has built-in storage space for extras. Does your bathroom not have much light? Then you’ll want a shower mirror that has LED lights to give you better visibility.
As with anything in your shower, you’ll need to clean your fogless shower mirror to keep it free from soap scum and mildew. Some of our recommended models come with a built-in squeegee which it’s best to use after each shower to remove soap scum. For a deeper clean, use a microfiber cloth and gentle glass cleaner to wipe down the mirror and the frame.
For a shower mirror with a suction cup, start by thoroughly cleaning the tile surface where you want to position the mirror. Once the tiles are dry, position the shower mirror where you want it—avoiding any grout lines—and then press firmly to create a tight seal.
To install a mirror with adhesive, you’ll also want to start by cleaning the tile area where you want to place the mirror. Once the tile is dry, apply mirror adhesive to the perimeter of the mirror’s back, press firmly to adhere, and then fill in any gaps between the tile and the mirror with caulk to ensure a watertight seal.
If your shower mirror is attached to the wall with adhesive, you can loosen the glue using a heat gun, and then carefully pry the mirror off of the tile using a putty knife around the perimeter.
For a mirror held by suction cups, you can break the seal by sliding a butter knife or other flat object between the suction cup and the wall. Once the air pressure has been released, simply pull the shower mirror off the wall.
When using a shower mirror with suction cups, it’s important to note that smooth, non-porous surfaces—like ceramic, glass, and fiberglass—will work best. If that’s the type of shower surface you have, and you’re still struggling to get your shower mirror to stay up, try cleaning your shower tiles with soap and water and then degreasing them with rubbing alcohol to remove any leftover residue. As always, be sure to let the tiles dry completely before attempting to affix the mirror.
Coating your mirror in shaving cream or toothpaste will keep your mirror condensation-free for several showers. Put a layer of toothpaste or shaving cream all over a dry mirror, and then wipe it off with a soft cloth. You can also spray your mirror with an anti-fog spray.
